As we've all mourned the losses of Kiska, Mercy,
Sam, and Katie this month it's made me acutely
aware of the fact that my feelings of profound
loss when one of the BeSota kids passes is two
fold:
I of course am always sad when one of the dogs
crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Dogs just don't live
long enough. But when it is a dog that has gone
from us to live with another family my sense of
loss gets doubled because not only do I grieve
for the dog, but in a lot of ways it breaks my
heart twice as deeply knowing one of our puppy
owners is suffering so terribly over the loss.
When Morgan died so suddenly and Lynne Hopkins
was in such pain over the loss, it was almost
unbearable.
Again yesterday I had that same numbing sense of
loss with Katie. In a way I think it's good
because the puppies remain a part of the family
here just as they are a part of the new family
into which they bonded! There have been
tremendous joys over the years as we've
celebrated great achievements and great fun
times within this BeSota family. But it also
means there are times when there is profound
sadness like yesterday. We all knew yesterday
was coming but it didn't make it any easier. So
for those of you who have suffered losses, we
share your pain in that loss but remember that
we also shared the joy of that life and will do
our best to remember the joys.
